Larch Wide-Plank in Austrian Hotel Stanglwirt…

Along with the natural treatment of the wood, mafi sets the highest standards of quality for wooden floors. Particularly significant is the standard of quality in the symmetrical construction of the 3-Layer flooring: Here the upper and lower layers are constructed of the same material. This procedure ensures an even balance of the flooring and produces high stability.
Quality and Durability are the characteristics of mafi floorings. Due to their extreme load-bearing capacity, they are ideally suited for use in high traffic areas.
The famous Stanglwirt Hotel in Kitzbühel/AUSTRIA has mafi floors since more than 15 years already and is still satisfied and fascinated from the quality and the hard-wearing abiltiy of these floors. Recently they renovated and expanded their Luxurios Resort and used mafi floors in the new rooms as well.
Especially the wide and long dimension of the Larch gives the rooms a special character. The two main characteristics of a mafi wide-plank are the length of four or five meters and a ranging width between 155 and 300mm. Because of the different widths the whole floor appears very lively and enlarges the entire room.

The bathroom as an individual spa oasis

In times that are increasingly influenced by stress and hectic, one’s own bathroom soon becomes a personal spa oasis – a place to rest and relax. Quality materials are used in the bathroom not only as part of its exclusive furnishings but as an important element towards harmony and relaxation of the senses. The choice of floor plays a major role in this process. As manufacturer of natural wood floors from Upper Austria whose name is already established on the international lifestyle sector, mafi provides quality floors in various designs which can help to create an individual feel-good paradise.

Due to the oiled surface mafi floors are able to absorb the moisture that occurs in the bathroom and dispense this again during the drying process. This has a positive effect on the climate in the room. The water that drips onto the floor when people leave the shower or bathtub poses no problem at all for a mafi floor. Large pools of water on the floor should however be mopped up. To ensure that the mafi floor remains permanently natural and brilliant and flawless despite sporadic splashes of water, regular care with adequate products is a must.

The right choice of wood

Care must be taken in the selection of wood as not every type of wood is suitable for use in bathrooms. Beech, for example, is one of the types of wood that shrink and swell considerably in damp surroundings. This is what is also known as ‛the wood’s expansion and contraction’. An exception is heat-treated beech wood as this process changes the shrinkage properties of the wood and increases its resistance to moisture. Larch and oak both react ideally to moisture and are naturally suited for use in wet rooms. One more insider tip: floors in bathrooms should be glued with elastic adhesive. The joint with the wall is also very important. This should be made using parquet joint sealing compound to prevent the build-up of moisture behind the wood.

Fresco: creative appearance with massage effect

Taking these aspects into consideration, mafi has developed a floor ideally suited for installation in indoor spa and bathroom areas. We are referring to the mafi Fresco line of floors. In order to really experience the quality and diversity of this floor, installation is recommended in rooms that are mainly entered barefoot. The elaborate finish of the plank surface using different mafi Fresco milling programs not only allows tired soles an invigorating massage break but at the same time provides an unusual look with waves (Fresco Duna), dots (Fresco Punkto) or diamonds (Fresco Rombo). The newest Fresco designs are Fresco Anaconda and Fresco Pista.

Our partner mafi France told us about this nice showroom which looks really like an apartment and not like a showroom.

The owner of this showroom used three different mafi floors, in the main room the Oak character wide plank, hand-planed, brushed and oiled with special oil.
In some areas they installed the Oak Clear, brushed extreme white oiled floor and in the bedroom is the Nero Coral Oak Vulcano silver, brushed white oiled.
The combination of light colours and dark colours is very beautiful and creates an elegant atmosphere.

MEGA – GIGA – TERA – ROSSO

One of mafi’s strengths are all the different variations of wide plank floorings with dimensions up to 5m long and up to 30cm wide. mafi was always Trendsetter in developing new products and launching floors nobody else is able to produce. With the Vulcano Rosso the next step in wide plank flooring is done.

Beech floors up to amazing 5 meters

Several years ago there was a project in Switzerland where an owner of a little castle wanted to make floors out of amazing big beeches standing majestically in his chateau’s park. As he couldn’t find any floor production willingly to risk a production of thes gigantic big beech trees he finally came to mafi and found a company reducing the risk of warping by a high quality manufacturing.

This project was the initial spark of developing the Vulcano Rosso. The Rosso is a slightly thermal treated beech with maximum sizes of 5m lengths and 30cm widths and an incomparable natural texture. The boards create an incredible generous feeling and make something special out of every room.

The Vulcano Rosso is also available with the Riva Mezzo Surface.

mafi Larch wide plank brushed natural oil is fantastically installed in the hotel rooms Pogusch in Steierereck. The rooms are  outstandingly mixed with natural products and  modern design. Relaxing in the rooms you can look through glass boards directly down into a stable. mafi Larch in Hotel Kitzhof in Kitzbuehl AT

Posted: September 16th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: hotels | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

This is a project in the traditional Hotel Kitzhof in Kitzbuehl with our mafi Larch County Vulcano brushed natural oiled wooden floor. The floor is in the restaurant of the Hotel since 8 years. Larch is the most hard-wearing conifer and therefore getting a charming patina over the years especially in higher frequented area.

We were there to visit the floor after 8 years and the floor still looks very good and beautiful. There is only one plank in front of the lift of the hotel which is strong worn which could easily be repaired or even removed. But as this plank is telling so many historic stories it doesn’t bother anybody not to be changed.
We think a Larch is beautiful for modern and also for traditional areas and it always gives good warmth feeling. mafi floors are not only for the private area also for high frequented areas a clever investment. With correct care the floor is beautiful and good looking for a long time.

Traditional accommodation in the Alps

Posted: August 11th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

This traditional accommodation with a view into the Kitzbuehler Alps is equipped with a mafi natural wooden floor. For traditional objects it is important to use a natural product like our mafi floor with warmth feeling. You can see wooden floors in the most ski huts in the Austrian Alps and people walk on it with wet ski boots. The floors in the ski huts are made only with natural wood and a natural surface. Also for hotels and accommodations in the Alps is it important to use wood in a natural way for  furniture and floors. The mafi oiled surface of wooden floors makes the wood almost as breathable as it is in it’s natural state (approx. 80%). The floor can breathe! The mafi oil is a natural oil free from solvents. About the brushed surface you can feel the naturalness of the wood.

On the pictures you can see our mafi Oak Vulcano brushed, natural oiled on the floor in combination with soft wood for the furniture and for the wooden beam. Also very good visible is the natural colour diversity of the wood which makes the wood unique. We think this is a very good reference to show in which different ways mafi is used. We are very proud about this gorgeous accommodation.
