Beech floors up to amazing 5 meters

Several years ago there was a project in Switzerland where an owner of a little castle wanted to make floors out of amazing big beeches standing majestically in his chateau’s park. As he couldn’t find any floor production willingly to risk a production of thes gigantic big beech trees he finally came to mafi and found a company reducing the risk of warping by a high quality manufacturing.

This project was the initial spark of developing the Vulcano Rosso. The Rosso is a slightly thermal treated beech with maximum sizes of 5m lengths and 30cm widths and an incomparable natural texture. The boards create an incredible generous feeling and make something special out of every room.

The Vulcano Rosso is also available with the Riva Mezzo Surface.

Wooden interior is always a good material for creating a warm and healthy environment. Especially for kids we need to make sure that they have the chance to play, study and live in best conditions.
We recently took notice of a scientific project in Austria where medics and a University found out in a test that kids studying in a wooden class had by far a lower hard beat than their colleagues in conventional classes. As of the more relaxed atmosphere they also were able to be concentrated longer then the others could. But wooden rooms do not always need to look old fashioned or boring. With the Carving Kids I & II you can create and healthy but cool environment.

Also because of knowing that a lot of our attitudes and skills we gain in the first couples of years of our life we developed the carving Kids I which is not only creating a natural and healthy environment for our young ones but also forcing their creativity. This floor is made for painting and colouring it so kiddies can create their own interior.

We will donate 10% of all income we make with mafi Carving Kids I till 30st of January 2011 and will hand over a cheque to an ambassador of a charity organization. So please help us putting a smile on some Kiddies face and help to donate.

Once again, mafi has succeeded in interpreting a modern design with a natural effect with not only helping to preserve the environment but also creating a pleasurable to walk on floor.

Vulcano Rosso has been designed to provide durable home grown wood flooring for example beech, which requires no additional chemicals or impregnation.
mafi has developed a special thermal process, which significantly improves the resistance of the wood. The beech is exposed to high temperatures over a given period of time, which causes the components to react and depending on the type of wood, creates a natural ageing or a warm dark accent. The delicate red or brown planks come in both white and natural oil, as well as being up to 5 meters long and 30 centimetres wide, Vulcano-Rosso planks are considerably less expensive than the comparable version in oak.

With the new style surface of Riva mezzo, mafi has managed to create an innovation with a hand-crafted scraped look.

Cracks and knots are visually accented with black putty, which bestows the floor with a stylish modern touch. Remarkable is the fact that as opposed to conventional scraped floors there are no stray splinters with which to rip socks. So the lady of the house can comfortably wear nylon stockings knowing that she doesn’t have to worry about those annoying ladders.

What do we need interior-wise to have a good ambience, atmosphere and flair?

mafi Story:
Once there was this customer, a Hotel owner, in one of our Flagship stores. He was looking for a natural wooden floor because he was building a new private house. He was very inspired with our floors and their design. During the conversation our sales staff found out that this guy was an hotel owner and also needed a floor for the Hotel-restaurant.
At the beginning of the conversation the hotel owner planned to use a ceramic tiled floor for the hotel because it was easier to clean. The warm feeling of the wooden floor was only planned for his private house. But after the consultant asking him a question  the hotel owner suddenly changed his mind.  The question was: “Imagine you want to go into a restaurant with your wife for a nice candle light dinner. Where would you feel more comfortable, in a restaurant with a stone floor or a restaurant with a natural wooden floor?” After thinking about this question the hotel owner was convinced in using a natural wooden floor for the restaurant area as well.

what human need for living

mafi processed basically larches which surfaces are treated solely with oil, consists of absolutely pure, renewable raw materials and is bio-degradable. mafi intentionally disassociates itself from lacquer and wood surface coating so that every floor stays breathable, can regulate the rooms moisture and purify the air. This means that all natural advantages, such as warmth and a pleasant atmoshere are preserved. Why are mafi wooden floors suitable for wet rooms?

As mafi natural oiled wooden floors come with an “open” wooden surface the floors are able to absorb water and humidity and can release it again; the wood can breathe.

The reason for that is simple but effective: the oil does not coat the floor on the top like lacquer or varnish do, but it is going inside the wood and is therefore protecting the whole top layer against water, humidity, stains, scratches and tracks of daily use. In comparison, lacquer is not able to protect the wood against humidity and water as soon as the coat has a little damage which will definitely occur in daily use. And if the lacquer coat is slightly damaged the wood is not protected anymore.

What about the swelling and shrinking?

As mafi floors are made of 3-layer constructions of solid wood, they are more stable than any other “solid wooden single layer floors”. This stableness reduces swelling and shrinking and keeps the floor flawless. Furthermore the thermo treated mafi collection called “Vulcano” is even more likely to be used in such conditions because of their even lesser swelling and shrinking attributes. This is founded due to the natural heat treatment (NO chemicals at all) that makes the wood structure more stable.

How to treat the floor correctly?

Of course it is important that the wood can also regenerate to keep it as marvelous as it is. To support that process it is very important to wash a mafi floor with our especially developed mafi soap. It is cleaning and refreshing the floor with oils and fats with one wash, as easy as pie. The longer you have your mafi floor and the more you wash it with mafi soap, the more resistant the floor will get against water, humidity and stains.

So how can you use mafi natural oiled wooden floors in wet rooms?

Considering the quality aspects we have very good long-term experience with mafi floors in bathrooms and wellness areas and can really recommend the floors for bathroom floorings, wall covering, ceilings and carpentries. Considering the unique feeling of walking barefoot on smooth and warm wood we can say: you will love it. One enthusiastic mafi customer even used a mafi Tigeroak as a wall covering inside the shower and still is fascinated and satisfied of the quality and the look.

Water on natural oiled wooden floors

“You can’t use wooden floors in wet rooms.”  This old-fashioned and outmoded statement belongs to the past. Find out why…

mafi natural oiled wooden floors with their unique, warm and smooth surface are definitely made for use in areas where it is humid and water can easily spill over. There are some good reasons why mafi natural oiled floors stand out in comparison to other floors that have been treated with lacquer.

They are warmer to the touch, leave no sign of condensation, allow diffusion and regulate moisture like natural wood. Without forming any film, the special mafi oils penetrate deep into the walking surface of the wooden floor, harden and make the wood resistant from within. (Lacquer does form a film on the floor and once it is scratched, the film is broken and the floor is unprotected).

Furthermore, due to the 3-layer construction and special surface treatment, the mafi natural wood floors are guaranteed to be more stable and resistant to swelling and shrinking. Due to these facts and our experience, we know that mafi floors are usable for bathrooms and recreation areas where moisture and humidity would cause problems on lacquer floors.

Water can leave marks/stains if it is left on a wooden floor surface for a long time. However, since the mafi floor is oiled, water marks can be removed after the floor is wiped a few times with the mafi soap. The more often you wipe the floor, (remember, you just have to wipe the floor when it’s dirty) the more resistant it gets against dirt and water. This is because the floor extracts all the oily and fatty ingredients of the soap and becomes more and more resistant.

So if you would like to fit your bathroom or wellness area with mafi flooring planks, please ensure that relevant guidelines for laying and re-finishing surfaces are observed and that the flooring is treated with reasonable care.

Wellness Areas upgraded with natural oiled wooden floors

Especially in areas where people want to relax and recreate body and mind you need to offer a very special room concept that makes people feel comfortable in this very second they enter the room. For ages mankind always used natural materials to create warm and healthy living conditions and relaxed atmospheres.

mafi Naturholzböden picked up exactly these attitudes and intentions and has the ambitious aim to give people more than a high-quality floor: they want to give a feeling.

mafi floors are especially made for areas where people live and therefore, want to feel comfortable. But why is that and what are the reasons for it?
