Private house equipped with mafi Tiger Oak

Posted: August 23rd, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

This private house in Switzerland is equipped with our mafi Tiger Oak black color filler brushed natural oil running through all rooms. The installer made a special solution to protect the area in front of the fireplace. The floor is protect with a glass slab that is not higher but on the same level as the wood. This is a very neat solution to have one level floor protected with glass without getting hurt walking barefoot.

Something about the technical side of this perfect variant.

The wood plank is a 3-layer construction, the backing and the top layer consist of the same type of wood. Depending on the wood type the layers are approx. 4 – 5 mm thick. The middle layer of conifer wood is glued diagonally, guaranteeing excellent shape retention. Because of this 3-layer construction is it possible to mill the floor on the back side a little to reduce the thickness of the floor exactly like thickness off the glass. Then you can lay the glass on the floor and the glass surface has the same height as the  rest of the wooden floor. This is a perfect variant to see the floor also in front of the fire place and the planks running through in one line.

Traditional accommodation in the Alps

Posted: August 11th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

This traditional accommodation with a view into the Kitzbuehler Alps is equipped with a mafi natural wooden floor. For traditional objects it is important to use a natural product like our mafi floor with warmth feeling. You can see wooden floors in the most ski huts in the Austrian Alps and people walk on it with wet ski boots. The floors in the ski huts are made only with natural wood and a natural surface. Also for hotels and accommodations in the Alps is it important to use wood in a natural way for  furniture and floors. The mafi oiled surface of wooden floors makes the wood almost as breathable as it is in it’s natural state (approx. 80%). The floor can breathe! The mafi oil is a natural oil free from solvents. About the brushed surface you can feel the naturalness of the wood.

On the pictures you can see our mafi Oak Vulcano brushed, natural oiled on the floor in combination with soft wood for the furniture and for the wooden beam. Also very good visible is the natural colour diversity of the wood which makes the wood unique. We think this is a very good reference to show in which different ways mafi is used. We are very proud about this gorgeous accommodation.

Climate house – Villa in Varese

What a modern house with warm feeling because of the natural wood…

Photo: Maurizio Marcato

We got these beautiful pictures from our partner mafi Italia. The architect Brusapasquè. from Studio Brusa Pasquè equipped the climate house with our Oak Vulcano brushed natural oil. The floor is very important especially for this house – it is a climate house and the architect used our floor because of it’s ecological attributes and art philosophy.

This private villa in Varese is classified in energetic class A. This is also possible because of the warm feeling of the mafi floor on your feet. Even in fall and sometimes in Winter you do not need to turn on the underfloor heating as the brushed and oiled surface is warmer then any other floors. This will not only reduce your heating costs but also will improve your quality of living.

Statement: “I am very happy that the positive benefits of our floors will be used from our clients” -  Nicola Pasquardini – CEO, mafi Italia.

Low-Energy house with mafi floor

The architect Alexander Tavakoli from BauArt architects used our wooden floors for a special low-energy house in Austria. He used approx 230 square meters of our Oak Vulcano, brushed natural oiled for the corridor, bar area, lounge and for the wellness area.

Press text about the low-energy house in Vienna:

Situated in the 19th District of Vienna, in the charming environs of the Kahlenberg, the project’s basic principle of design is to harmoniously co-exist with the local area and topography. The structure is based on a straight-lined design, consisting of a four level spatial sequence that orchestrates space, light and carefully chosen materials.
Precisely positioned apertures afford inhabitants with quality views of the surrounding environment whilst simultaneously blocking unwelcome viewing, ensuring a sense of privacy within.
The feel of the surfaces played a major part in the choice of materials used. A composition reduced to wood, stone and glass enhances the appreciation of each material. Clay plastering throughout improves the acoustics, thus contributing to a relaxing atmosphere.
The construction is state of the art and is a certified  “low-energy” house.

Vertical useability of mafi wood

We got very good pictures of a private house in Belgium. The architects from Elbeko planned this house with our wooden floors. They used our material not only for the floor but also for some other good details in the house. Walnut sanded natural oiled was used for the living room, for the stairs, the desk and also for the shelf in the room.

The architects also thought about the good feeling to walk barefoot on wood because in the bed room they put the mafi Fresco Duna white oil which gives you a feet massage as soon as you do your first steps in the morning.

The architects had another two good ideas…
For two shelves they used mafi Domino. You can see it on the picture with the cinema room. In the back there is a shelf with mafi Domino behind the sofa.

The perfect done work is from Chris Verschaeve Bvba.

Larch Virgin in private house

Posted: July 20th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

We recently got pictures of a nice done projects in an US American Ski Chalet. The owner wanted to do the whole house with the mafi Larch Virgin, brushed, natural oiled.
Combined with the stone walls and the fire place a special natural atmosphere was created. We think that this is a very nice project.

The mafi Larch floors are not only the most hard wearing conifer floors it is also a floor that can be brushed very good. This will provide you a very soft and warm walking on the floor and a slightly massage effect.

Tiger Oak in green building in Vail, Colorado

Posted: July 12th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

We want to show you an amazing house with our mafi Tiger Oak black color filler brushed natural oil. The home is designed and built by Gillette LLC. Before this smart house there was an old house on the location that was purchased and torn down to build this green home instead. They used the Tiger Oak for all areas in the house.

The mafi Tiger Oak gives the project a very warm atmosphere because of it’s warm and vivid surface. mafi floors do not only look warm they also feel warm as they are brushed and natural oiled.
This is one of the reasons why you save a lot of energy in spring and fall. When it gets colder outside you still do not need to turn on the underfloor heating because your feet still feel warm and cosy compared to lacquered floors, stones or tiles..

Villa: Oak Country stair-design

Posted: May 26th, 2010 | Author: koan | Filed under: private houses | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Beyer& Freitag architects equipped this Villa in Leer/GER with 270 square meters Oak Country, brushed oiled white. A very nice detail is the crossover between two rooms without any gaps or metal solutions.
They also used the mafi Oak Country for the stairs with the mafi plank as running-board and solid wood stair noses. This is an easy way to create a very beautiful stair design. The stair noses are available directly from mafi and for the running-board you only have to order the plank. mafi installers may help you to create a very unique way of getting up and down.

Oak Country white oil: Cracks, knotholes and large knots are emphasized with black putty. Colour retention given proper care. Light wood remains permanently light when treated with white Wood Floor Soap as white pigments are worked into the wood every time the floor is damp wiped.
Because of the very natural and vivid surface, just like we get it by nature, the floor is very insensitive against amrks and stains.
If still damaged the Country floors are very easy to repair. As no film forms on the wood, diagonal scratches and damage can be repaired at any time by sanding the affected area. Re-oiling is then carried out only on that area.
