reduce the mix – bath on wood

Posted: February 1st, 2012 | Author: chemetsberger | Filed under: interior design, private houses, references | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

mafi floors give every home a comfortable and natural base. The natural wood spreads a warm feeling and creates a personal and cozy atmosphere. Especially private homes are places where the individual expressions determine the interior concept. In these concepts the idea of reducing the material-mix gets more and more important. In this private house in Vienna every room is covered with mafi natural wooden flooring. Thanks to the oiled surface the wood hardens out from the inside and is not covered or just sealed on the top. The wood stays breathable and that is why it can absorb water in a normal extent. Water marks will disappear in a few minutes and as a side effect the wood is purifying the air with it and regulates moisture. Therefore mafi natural wooden floors are perfectly suitable for bathrooms and wellness areas.

This mafi Oak Clear prepares a balanced and homogeneous atmospheric environment. The brushed surface guarantees a natural structure and warm feeling on the feet. The white oiled finish allows a lot of different colors around it and makes it easy to combine. Even white furniture makes a strong impression on this mafi flooring.

Natural Responsibility without Compromise
mafi was the first Company in the Industry to decide for a lacquer-free, completely naturally oiled flooring surface. The Oils used are wholly based on natural raw materials. These natural properties support the wood by preserving and highlighting its natural qualities.

As a pioneer of natural wood processing, mafi works under the principle of sustainability. The careful use of resources is at the heart of the company’s ethics. During processing, the whole tree is used – with all its physical and visual diversity. Following its pioneering vision, mafi has developed its own method of thermal treatment. This eliminates the need to use Tropical timber. Using only water and heat, Vulcano floors are completely stained in a natural way.

Quality through Performance
Along with the natural treatment of the wood, mafi sets the highest standards of quality for wooden floors. Particularly significant is the standard of quality in the symmetrical construction of the 3-Layer flooring: Here the upper and lower layers are constructed of the same material. This procedure ensures an even balance of the flooring and produces high stability.
Quality and Durability are the characteristics of mafi floorings. Due to their extreme load-bearing capacity, they are ideally suited for use in high traffic areas. The Baroque Cathedral of Zacatecas and the Hotel Madlein in Ischgl are perfect examples of the qualitative durability of mafi products.

With approximately 20 different woods, most of which are local types, mafi offers around 250 differing products which are exported to more than 50 countries. This superb portfolio is thanks to more than 80 staff at the Production facility in Austria, where utmost quality is the highest principle for mafi products.

Exceptional Floorings for Exceptional People
mafi products are one off Masterpieces. Far removed from mass production, mafi offers individual natural floorings. Every year, new technologies and designs are developed, from which many have found to be international trend setters.
mafi floorings easily integrate into existing rooms and turn them into unique artefacts. Due to the preservation of the natural quality of the wood, they are very robust and especially easy to maintain. Just like human skin, these natural wood floorings are best treated with a soap and a special protective balm.

Thanks to maximum quality, ecological responsibility and individual solutions mafi sets itself the highest standards and thereby creates success in every aspect.

mafi is the Avant-garde of Floorings. Year on Year, new products are developed in the Austrian wooden flooring industry which receive great approval in the international Architecture scene.

A perfect example of this development is mafi’s Carving. It enables, for the first time, the transfer of any design onto the wood without compromising its positive properties.

Every person is an individual. Carving makes it possible to transfer this individuality onto the flooring thus creating a very personal living space.

With Carving Grunge, Retro, Kids, Club, Empire, Nana and Paisley, mafi offers its customers a wide variety of stunning designs. Carving gives homes, bars or offices a distinctive character and turns them into fashionable locations.

The Customer’s individual interests lay close to mafi’s heart. With the ‘Carving Custom Design’, shops become iconic stores which communicate directly the identity of their brand.

In all our creations, mafi preserves the naturalness of the wood and through the deliberate use of ecological processing allows it a new expression.

The Riva Mezzo surface combines the naturalness of wood with innovative technology. With its tactile structure, Riva Mezzo takes up the diversity of nature and applies it to social living.

The Riva Mezzo structure resembles the ocean’s sandy soil, which has been modelled over time by the gentle swell of the waves. Just like a reflection of any natural phenomenon, this flooring creates a cosy ambience that invites you to relax and seduce the senses.

mafi Fresco is the perfect symbiosis of naturalness, quality and design. With the use of new technologies, mafi brings to the fore the striking particularities of the wood and develops these artistically into new designs.

The hand-finished surface exerts a slight massaging effect on the feet and has a beneficial effect on body and mind. Whether installed on the floor or on the wall, mafi Fresco projects its impressive impact and gives the room a distinctive structure.

Each room has its own character right from the beginning. In order to optimally emphasise this character, mafi offers this design with Waves (Fresco Duna), Dots (Punto Fresco), Diamonds (Fresco Rombo), Snake Print (Fresco Anaconda) or Tyre Tread (Fresco Pista).

For its successfully detailed solution, this flooring was awarded an Honourable Mention at the Red Dot Award: Product Design.

mafi trades on the principles of origin and sustainability. The natural wealth of shapes and patterns existing in nature offers mafi an ideal basis to turn flooring into unique works of art.

The Coral Oak combines all requirements which mafi has for any natural wood floor. Through the treatment with pure natural oils, this wood displays positive impact and gives any room such a special atmosphere. The main characteristic of this design are the artistically integrated cracks, which can be filled in with different colour variations.

The Coral Oak forms the room. Thanks to the long cracks, rooms appear visually larger and give the people the freedom they need to flourish.

The Magic Oak displays therefore an expansion. With great love for the raw material wood, every single plank is hand-planed. The resulting tactile depths give each floor its own character and bring the room to life.

mafi has long been considered a trendsetter in the field of natural wood floorings. To guarantee this excellent reputation, this family run company brings out new products every year that are often leading the way for global trends.

One of these masterpieces is the Tiger Oak. The fine cracks that run through this elegant wood embody mafi’s unconventional way of thinking and have revolutionised a whole industry.

Every single Tiger Oak board is unique. The vivid surface pattern gives the room a dynamic character and exudes an invigorating energy. At the same time, this design fits unobtrusively into any existing arrangement and harmonises with other room components.

The tree has been growing for millions of years on our Earth. mafi understands how to interpret the valuable commodity that is wood again and again, and to use it for innovative and ground breaking ideas.

mafi Domino is composed of strong wooden cubes that have been taken from the most stable area of the tree trunk. This makes the floor extremely robust and resistant to any pressures to which it is exposed in the course of its long life.

Domino’s cubed look delivers each time a different effect whether on the floor or on the wall. The result of the various warm nuances of the natural colour of the wood cubes is a comforting and yet luxurious ambience.

Through a deep understanding for Nature and our sensitive treatment of the wood, we give our floorings the consistency of works of art.

Larch Wide-Plank in Austrian Hotel Stanglwirt…

Along with the natural treatment of the wood, mafi sets the highest standards of quality for wooden floors. Particularly significant is the standard of quality in the symmetrical construction of the 3-Layer flooring: Here the upper and lower layers are constructed of the same material. This procedure ensures an even balance of the flooring and produces high stability.
Quality and Durability are the characteristics of mafi floorings. Due to their extreme load-bearing capacity, they are ideally suited for use in high traffic areas.
The famous Stanglwirt Hotel in Kitzbühel/AUSTRIA has mafi floors since more than 15 years already and is still satisfied and fascinated from the quality and the hard-wearing abiltiy of these floors. Recently they renovated and expanded their Luxurios Resort and used mafi floors in the new rooms as well.
Especially the wide and long dimension of the Larch gives the rooms a special character. The two main characteristics of a mafi wide-plank are the length of four or five meters and a ranging width between 155 and 300mm. Because of the different widths the whole floor appears very lively and enlarges the entire room.

The most long-lasting piece of interior furnishings

A floor is not only the base for all living and interior concepts, it is also the most long-lasting piece of interior furnishings. People are changing for example their furniture or even the color of the walls quiet frequently – a floor stays as the foundation of each room. Therefore, of course quality, design and composability are important characteristics of mafi natural wooden floors.

Explicit architectural and interior concepts are following the trend to mix-up modern design with natural wooden material. mafi goes one step further by offering 100% natural wooden floors  but combined with subtle and reserved design elements like hand finished cracks filled with different colors . This is also part of mafis philosophy not to hide the natural characteristics of the wood but to celebrate it by highlighting knots and cracks intentionally.

Thanks to the white oiled surface there a many different possibilities to combine this mafi Coral Oak white with other colorful elements. This interesting project attends with colorful highlights in green and pink on the walls. The brushed surface invites to walk barefoot on it to feel the natural texture of our mafi floors.

mafi insists on color diversity and not on uniformity

A mafi Oak Vulcano captivates not only with its dimensional stability or its resistance. In particular this natural wooden floor convinces with its range of warm, brown colors. The typical color differences in a thermo-treaded floor are part of the natural mafi philosophy of the conservation of natural resources. The natural color of wood is influenced by the climatic environment of the tree. Seasons, altitude, weather conditions and the culture medium of the soil where the tree grows influence the appearance of the wood. Depending on the type of wood, the age of the tree when harvested is 100 – 200 years. To ensure a sustainable use of natural resources, the wood is therefore always harvested in different growing regions and replaced by a new seedling.

This private house in Switzerland is a perfect example of an optimal use of this color differences inside a home concept. The variety of brown shades creates a cordial and warm atmosphere inside every room. Due to the diverse colours the interior is easy to combine with the floor. Nearly in every accessory one of the brown shades of the floor is integrated. Even the contrast to the white walls and the white furniture appears homogeneous. This is just another example how the natural handling of wood by mafi creates new ideas and concepts in design.

Posted: August 12th, 2011 | Author: chemetsberger | Filed under: art projects, company, interior design | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

The time of Salzburg Festival always creates a cosmopolitan and glamorous aura around Salzburg. mafi takes  account to this situation and presents one of the newest innovations in natural wood flooring:
THE MAFI CATWALK.

Located in the Imbergstraße 9, the mafi flagshipstore exhibits this eye-catcher in its shop window. The design is inspired by the mafi Tiger oak – another innovation introduced by mafi – but the cracks are lighted with a specific LED module. With an included remote control the colours can range from deep red to dark blue or run through different automatic programs as well. These individual possibilities attract outstanding interest for commercial areas like bars, nightclubs or hotels.

This unique floor combines all the attributes mafi stands for. The wood is treated completely natural, only with mafi oil, which gives the floor its great resistance but also keeps the wood breathable and therefore allows the floor to regulate the moisture inside the rooms. On the other hand mafi catwalk proofs the innovative character of the mafi products by unifying technique and design.

The mafi Flagshipstore is located in the heart of Salzburg directly on the river Salzach with a beautiful view on the old centre of the city with the fortress in the background. The bathroom as an individual spa oasis

Posted: July 21st, 2011 | Author: ibuchacher | Filed under: hotels, interior design, knowledge, mafi inside, private houses | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

In times that are increasingly influenced by stress and hectic, one’s own bathroom soon becomes a personal spa oasis – a place to rest and relax. Quality materials are used in the bathroom not only as part of its exclusive furnishings but as an important element towards harmony and relaxation of the senses. The choice of floor plays a major role in this process. As manufacturer of natural wood floors from Upper Austria whose name is already established on the international lifestyle sector, mafi provides quality floors in various designs which can help to create an individual feel-good paradise.

Due to the oiled surface mafi floors are able to absorb the moisture that occurs in the bathroom and dispense this again during the drying process. This has a positive effect on the climate in the room. The water that drips onto the floor when people leave the shower or bathtub poses no problem at all for a mafi floor. Large pools of water on the floor should however be mopped up. To ensure that the mafi floor remains permanently natural and brilliant and flawless despite sporadic splashes of water, regular care with adequate products is a must.

The right choice of wood

Care must be taken in the selection of wood as not every type of wood is suitable for use in bathrooms. Beech, for example, is one of the types of wood that shrink and swell considerably in damp surroundings. This is what is also known as ‛the wood’s expansion and contraction’. An exception is heat-treated beech wood as this process changes the shrinkage properties of the wood and increases its resistance to moisture. Larch and oak both react ideally to moisture and are naturally suited for use in wet rooms. One more insider tip: floors in bathrooms should be glued with elastic adhesive. The joint with the wall is also very important. This should be made using parquet joint sealing compound to prevent the build-up of moisture behind the wood.

Fresco: creative appearance with massage effect

Taking these aspects into consideration, mafi has developed a floor ideally suited for installation in indoor spa and bathroom areas. We are referring to the mafi Fresco line of floors. In order to really experience the quality and diversity of this floor, installation is recommended in rooms that are mainly entered barefoot. The elaborate finish of the plank surface using different mafi Fresco milling programs not only allows tired soles an invigorating massage break but at the same time provides an unusual look with waves (Fresco Duna), dots (Fresco Punkto) or diamonds (Fresco Rombo). The newest Fresco designs are Fresco Anaconda and Fresco Pista.

Synchronization of furniture and mafi floors

Posted: July 19th, 2011 | Author: ibuchacher | Filed under: art projects, experiences, interior design, private houses, references | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

It is always a constitutive decision in interior design concepts: The combination between the furniture and the floor concerning style, colour and quality. In this regard the development of the last years has shown that the material mix inside the rooms should be reduced. Furthermore an old design rule of thumb is that only three different colours should be mixed. This information leads us to the right choice of a mafi natural wooden floor. This example shows an Oak Vulcano, brushed and natural oiled. The wood is thermo treated which gives the floor its typical dark appearance. The natural oiling strengths the original grain of the wood visually but gives the floor its great resistance as well. The interaction between the white walls and the dark floor can also be found in the mixture between the black and white furniture – truly a design masterpiece.

Another interesting fact related to this private project in Switzerland is the combination between a mafi Oak Vulcano and tiles made out of marble, also a natural product. mafi natural wooden floors can easily be combined with other floor covering material. Even existing height differences can be cleared because of the variable thickness of our mafi floors.

Expert’s tip: Always use furniture sliders for a long-term protection of your personal mafi floor.
